And even when the slaughter had happened, much of the media found it easier to slander both the U.S. military and the general populace than to confront the evidence. The Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano professed to be most worried about an “anti-Muslim backlash†from the knuckledragging bozo citizenry she has the forlorn task of attempting to hold in check. This is the Jennifer Lynch argument: the priority is always some hypothetical atrocity waiting to happen, no matter how many times we ace that test: there was no “anti-Muslim backlash†after 3,000 corpses on Sept. 11, or after Bali, Madrid or London. Muslims have certainly been murdered in New York and London but by their co-religionists on 9/11 and 7/7 rather than by any “Islamophobes.â€
[I]t’s the craven submission to political correctness, the willingness to leave your marbles with the Diversity Café hat-check girl, that leads to death—real death, with real corpses, from Texas to Ontario. And when the guy’s on the table firing wildly and screaming “Allahu akbar!â€, the PC enforcers won’t be there for you.
From the Onion piece, “American Muslims To Fort Hood Shooter: ‘Thanks A Lot, Asshole.'”
FORT HOOD, TX—Following Army psychologist Nidal Malik Hasan’s shooting rampage on the Fort Hood military base last week that left 13 people dead and 30 others injured, fellow Muslims across the nation sent him a message today, saying “thanks a fucking bunch, asshole,” to the 39-year-old killer. “Hey, great, eight years of progress right down the shitter,” St. Cloud, MN resident Zahida Naseem said at one of dozens of impromptu rallies held nationwide. “And you just had to scream ‘Allahu Akbar’ while you did it, didn’t you? May as well have put on a turban and rode a fucking camel right through the army base, you dick. Thanks for making the foreseeable future a living hell for normal, peace-loving Muslims in this country. Really appreciate it!” American Sikhs are also reportedly enraged with Hasan, and an official statement from the National Sikh Heritage Center read, in part, “look, we got nothing to do with that guy.”
I still love the Onion, but why even bother making this joke? Besides being awkwardly PC and devoid of any humorous content, it’s completely incongruous to their almost nihilistic satirical assault on everything else in the world.
Not a joke, evidently: U.S. Homeland Security secretary working to prevent possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment
From the AP:
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The U.S. Homeland Security secretary says she is working to prevent a possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment after the shootings at Fort Hood in Texas.
Janet Napolitano says her agency is working with groups across the United States to try to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following Thursday’s rampage by Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The shootings left 13 people dead and 29 wounded.
You know what would be awesome? If the Department of Homeland Security focused on its raison d’être– principally, guarding against terrorism– rather than forestalling anticipated resentment.
UPDATE: More from the AP:
His fellow students complained to the faculty about Hasan’s “anti-American propaganda,” but said a fear of appearing discriminatory against a Muslim student kept officers from filing a formal written complaint.
I think Janet Napolitano has cause and effect completely reversed. If we promote a culture of such absolute, bend-over-backwards-so-as-not-to-offend-anybody tolerance, to the extent that people cannot reasonably call attention to murderous, anti-American psychos, then something is deeply wrong. And if our goal is genuinely to keep Americans from dying (and it is, right?), then the answer isn’t more supine hypersensitivity and diversity dogma.
