This Week’s Great Moments In Public Education

“California Students Sent Home for Wearing U.S. Flags on Cinco de Mayo”

Administrators at a California high school sent five students home on Wednesday after they refused to remove their American flag T-shirts and bandannas — garments the school officials deemed “incendiary” on Cinco de Mayo.

So I guess the assumption goes unchallenged that America itself is offensive to Mexican-Americans. That’s awesome stuff, California.

“Field trip for black students sparks controversy at Ann Arbor elementary school”

An Ann Arbor elementary school principal used a letter home to parents tonight to defend a field trip for black students as part of his school’s efforts to close the achievement gap between white and black students.

If the goal is to close the achievement gap between white and black students by denying something to the white students, wouldn’t it be easier just to send the white kids home one day a week?
