The New York Daily News reports that Chris Martin declared from the stage that “[Live 8] is the greatest thing that’s ever been organized in the history of the world.”
If by “world†he means “self-important British rock stars†and “thing†he means “emptily symbolic rock festival,†then I cannot disagree.
Certainly Live 8 was an upgrade from its predecessor, Live Aid, aka African Tyrant Capital Campaign ‘85.
It only took the lead singer of the Boomtown Rats 20 years to figure out that, if you want to help Africans, better to sing pointlessly into space than to finance murderous relocation programs.
